DALLAS (SMU) – Join SMU in celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
In 1987, NGWSD served as a remembrance of Olympic volleyball player, Flo Hyman, for her athletic achievements and dedication to promoting equality for women's sports. Since then, NGWSD has evolved into an event to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.
Fans can support SMU Women's Athletics by attending games, purchase tickets, participate in clinics or donate to their excellence funds.

 SMU Women's Basketball hosts its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day Game against Pitt on Sunday, February 9, at 2 p.m. CT.  Before the game, there will be an inspiring Women's Panel with local women in sports in the Miller Club starting at 1:15 p.m. During the game, there will be on-court recognitions and promotions with other Women's sports on campus. After the game, all fans in 6th grade and younger can participate in a 30-minute clinic with the SMU Volleyball, Soccer and Basketball teams.

The panel is hosted by Brenda Scott, Director of Cultural Intelligence at SMU Athletics and will feature Jazzi Black - Philanthropist and Multimedia Journalist at Radio One Dallas, Teirney Guinyard - Founder, The ELO Group LLC and Empowering Leaders to Organize and Hannah Wing Pontikes - Host of "Rangers Deep in the Heart Podcast," Digital & In-Game Host, and Influence Marketing Manager at Texas Rangers.
