DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis is set to travel to North Carolina to face No. 13 Duke and UNC on Friday and Sunday.

The Mustangs improved to No. 56 in the latest ITA Rankings released on March 18.

SMU vs No. 13 DUKE
  • This will be the second meeting between SMU and Duke.
  • The then sixth-ranked Blue Devils won their previous meeting 4-2 in the Sweet 16 round of the 2000 NCAA Championships.
  • Duke has three players ranked in the ITA singles rankings. Pedro Rodenas was ranked No. 36, Cooper Williams was at No. 71 and Sam Landau is the No. 122 player in the nation.
  • In doubles, three Blue Devils pairs were ranked in the ITA rankings. Cooper Williams and Theo Winegar were ranked at No. 25, Winegar and Rodenas were ranked No. 36 and Williams is also in the rankings at No. 62 with Andy Petrovic.
SMU vs NORTH CAROLINA
  • SMU and North Carolina have only faced each other once.
  • Their previous meeting was 40 years ago, in 1985, when the Mustangs won 9-0 at home.
  • UNC's Chris Xu was ranked No. 114 in the ITA singles rankings.
  • In doubles, Patrick Schoen and Logan Zapp are the 88th-ranked pair in the nation.
SMU vs VA TECH
  • SMU Men's Tennis swept Virginia Tech 4-0 at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.
  • The Mustangs were dominant from the first serve, winning two straight doubles and three singles matches to secure their highest-ranked win of the season against the No. 43-ranked Hokies.
  • The win was the program's first ACC win as the Mustangs improved to 12-10 through the season.
SMU vs No. 8 VIRGINIA
  • The Mustangs took the early advantage by winning the doubles point.
  • Svajda and Cloud defeated the No. 22-ranked pair Hooper and Rice (6-3) before Vikas Deo and Xavier Calvelo clinched the doubles point with a win over Ty Switzer and Jangjun Kim (6-4).
  • In singles play, UVA's No. 18 Rafael Jodar defeated Svajda (6-3, 6-2) to win the visitors' first point. Mans Dahlberg took the lead for the Cavaliers with a 6-4, 6-4 win on court six over Maks Silagy.
  • The visitors extended their lead as Roy Horovitz defeated Louis Cloud 6-2, 7-5 on court five, and No. 22 Dylan Dietrich clinched the match for Virginia with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win over Jerry Barton.
MUSTANGS IN THE RANKINGS SERVIN' SVAJDA
  • Svajda was ranked No. 86 in the current ITA singles rankings.
  • He has four wins over ranked opponents this season.
  • He made the San Diego Open quarterfinal round last weekend to earn a qualifier wild card to the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells. He fell in the first round of the Indian Wells Open.
  • He has one win against a ranked opponent this season.
  • Sophomore Trevor Svajda joined SMU as the No. 1 tennis recruit in the nation.
  • Svajda was ranked no. 19 at the start of the 2024 fall season and ended the season ranked 48th.
  • Svajda defeated No. 77 ranked Azuma Visaya in court one of singles on the Mustangs' season-opener at Hawaii.
  • He earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Individual Championship after reaching the semifinal round of the ITA Sectional Championship with a win over Nebraska's Calvin Meuller in the quarterfinals.
  • Svajda earned AAC All-Conference honors (singles) and was named the AAC Freshman of the Year in 2024.
  • Svajda has a 16-7 record in his freshman season with the Mustangs.
  • Svajda earned five singles wins over ranked opponents last season (No. 17, No. 29, No. 35, No. 68, No. 107).
GEORGI "6-0, 6-0" GEORGIEV
  • Georgiev earned his first collegiate ranking at No. 117 on Feb.25 after going undefeated against ranked opponents in the ITA National Indoor Championships.
  • He is currently undefeated in four consecutive singles matches.
  • He grabbed back-to-back wins against ranked opponents. He defeated No. 69-ranked Charlelie Cosnet from Kentucky (6-0, 6-3) before defeating No. 117 Patorn Hanchaikul (6-0, 6-3).
  • He has won two matches without dropping a game (6-0, 6-0).
