John's Island, S.C. (SMU) – SMU women's golf sits in a tie for fifth place after 18 holes of the Briars Creek Invitational hosted by the College of Charleston.
 
The tournament was originally scheduled for 36 holes on Monday and 18 holes on Tuesday but was modified due to the weather. No holes will be played on Monday now and 18 holes will remain on Tuesday making it a 36 hole event. The Mustangs shot five-over par on Sunday. Mackenzie Lee, Celine Chen and Emily Odwin all sit in the top 20. The Mustangs are two shots back of the top three. They are currently in a four-way tie for fifth with Maryland, East Carolina and Charleston among the 17-team field.
 
Lee leads the Mustangs with a two under day. She birdied her last three holes of the back nine to move from two over par to under par. She made it four holes in a row with a birdie on No. 1. Lee is in search of her 20^th top 10 finish of her career. She currently sits in a tie for seventh.
 
Chen carded an even par day to hold a share of 17^th. She played bogey free her first 16 holes giving her an incredible 78 straight holes without a bogey dating back to the Collegiate Invitational at Guadalajara. She averages 71.50 over her last 10 rounds.
 
Odwin sits one stroke back of Chen in a tie for 20^th. She will try to earn her 10^th top 20 finish in her 16^th career start. With her 45^th career round in the books, Odwin now qualifies for the SMU career scoring record. She ranks third with an average of 72.62
 
Amelie Kumar holds a share of 65^th after her six over day. Jingan "Annie" Huang sits in 85^th. Competing as an individual, June Song holds onto 61^st place.
 
The Mustangs return to the course for the final 18 holes of the Briars Creek Invitational on Tuesday following Monday's off day.
