CARY, N.C. (SMU) – No. 13 seed SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-2 in a battle against No. 5 seed Virginia in the second round of the ACC Championship at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., on Thursday.
 
The Mustangs took the doubles point and went on a singles battle before dropping the match to the Cavaliers, who were ranked No. 6 in the latest ITA rankings.
 
No. 43-ranked Trevor Svajda and Louis Cloud won their fourth ranked doubles win of the season while No. 75-ranked Georgi Georgiev and Ofek Shimanov also earned their fourth ranked win as a pair.
 
No. 6 UVA is the Mustangs' 11th top-10 opponent this season.
 
How it Went
SMU once again took the first point by winning two straight doubles matches. The Mustangs have won the doubles point in three consecutive matches.
 
No. 43 Svajda and Cloud defeated No. 23 James Hopper and Keegan Rice (6-2) to start the match with a Mustang win. Their win was their third top-25 win as a pair this season.
 
No. 75 Georgiev and Shimanov won against No. 30 Mans Dahlberg and Dylan Dietrich (6-3) on court one to win the doubles point.
 
Virginia took the momentum in singles play.
 
UVA's No. 26 Dietrich defeated Jerry Barton on court two (6-1, 6-2) to even the score, before the Cavaliers took the lead with a win by Jangjun Kim over Maks Silagy (6-3, 6-1) on court five.
 
Noah McDonald fell on court six to Mans Dahlberg (6-4, 6-2) as the Cavaliers made it 3-1.
 
Shimanov scored a point for the Mustangs with a win over Rice on court three (7-5, 6-3). SMU cut its deficit to 3-2 before UVA clinched the match with a win by Hopper over Cloud (7-6(6), 6-2) on court four.
