AUBURN, Ala. SMU men's golf sits in fourth place after round one of the NCAA Auburn Regional needing a top-five finish after three days to advance to the NCAA Championship.

The Mustangs came into the Auburn Regional as the fourth seed. The Mustangs were in the top five throughout the first day of competition from Auburn University Club. The teams sat through a significant delay in the action in the middle of the day that pushed the round into the evening. SMU found themselves in fourth at the end of the day behind Auburn (-13), UCLA (-5) and Georgia Tech (-4). The Mustangs sit at two-under. Behind the Mustangs, three teams, Purdue, Texas A&M and New Mexico State, are tied at even par for the final advancing spot.

Will Sides led the Mustangs with a sixth-place standing. He shot two-under 70, his team leading 21
st round of par or better. Sides shot a 35 on both the front nine and the back nine. The Tulsa, Oklahoma native is five shots out of first place held by Brendan Valdes of Auburn.

Areen Aggarwal shot one-under 71. He holds a spot in the top 10. Aggarwal birdied five times in nine holes during the early part of his round.

Zachary Kingsland fought his way back from two-over at the turn to even par on the round. He shot a 72 and holds a share of 20
th.
Matthew Foster shot one-over par with a 35 on his final nine holes. Foster sits in a tie for 31
st.
Enrique Dimayuga shot four-over to end the day in 63
rd.
The Mustangs return to the course for round two at 8:00 a.m. CT. They will be paired alongside golfers from Purdue and Texas A&M.
