WACO, Texas (SMU) - SMU Men's Tennis wrapped its fall opener at the Waco Fall Kickoff Classic hosted by Baylor on Sunday.
 
Meethre Barot, Noah McDonald, Alex Stafford and Matthew Faraci collected six individual wins against players from Baylor, Rice, UTSA, Abilene Christian, UT Arlington, Texas Tech and Texas A&M.
 
McDonald led the Mustangs with two singles wins over Saul Berdullas from UT Arlington (6-3, 6-3) and Ben Chetewy Ungar from UTSA (7-5, 6-2, (10-6)) through the weekend.  
 
"Thrilled to get the fall season going. The first few weeks of school went well, and the team has been working hard on their fitness and tennis," said Head Coach Grant Chen.
 
"Baylor did a great job organizing a terrific fall event where every student athlete got three singles and three doubles matches. Congrats to freshman Matthew for winning his first collegiate victory. Noah and Alex both went 2-1 in singles, earning hard-fought wins. We have a long way to go, but it felt great to get out and compete against other universities in our great state."
 
While the four Mustangs were at Waco, Junior Trevor Svajda competed at the ATP Winston-Salem Challenger 50 and placed runner-up in the tournament. He defeated four opponents who were ranked higher than him to reach the championship round.
