LAKE BLUFF, Ill. (SMU) – Will Sides and Christian Clark sit in the top 10 as SMU holds fifth place after two rounds of the Stephens Cup from Shoreacres.
 
With two rounds on the slate for Monday, the Mustang shot +4 in round one in the six-team field that includes four teams ranked in the top 25. They sat in sixth before rebounding in round two. The Mustang passed Northwestern for the fifth spot with a six-under second round, the third best round by any of the six teams across the two rounds. SMU sits two shots back of Texas for a spot in a match play pairing.
 
Sides, looking to defend his 2024 Stephens Cup title, bogeyed just three times on the day to shoot six under. He carded a 68 in round one highlighted by a 32 on the front nine. On the final 18, Sides doubled the second hole before shooting five under the rest of the way. This run included an eagle on the 528-yard 15^th-hole. He sits in a tie for second place, three strokes behind first place Noah McWilliams of LSU (-9).
 
Clark birdied holes three through five during round one and finished with an even-par 70. He put together six birdies to shoot 68 during the second round. Clark holds a share of eighth place, looking for his best collegiate finish.
 
Zachary Kingsland sits in a tie for 19^th after rounds of 72 and 69. He shot a 69 during round two with a birdie on his final hole.
 
Gabe Post birdied his final two holes of the day to move into a tie for 33^rd. Areen Aggarwal shot a 74 and 77 to sit in 35^th.
 
The Mustangs return for round three on Tuesday. The top two teams after three rounds will advance to the final and the third and fourth place teams will meet in a match play pairing as well with the winner taking third place.
