DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis will resume its spring campaign by hosting UTRGV on Friday, No. 4 TCU on Saturday and Tulsa on Sunday at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
All matches will begin at 1 pm CT on their respective days.
The Mustangs go into the weekend coming off a 6-1 win at home over Louisiana on Jan. 18. Their match against No. 5 TCU will be the Mustangs' second ranked matchup against a top-10 opponent this season.
Matchups
- SMU is 3-0 all-time against UTRGV, 14-28 against TCU and 16-14 against Tulsa.
- The Mustangs faced UTRGV and TCU last season. They swept UTRGV 7-0 last season and fell to the Frogs won in Fort Worth (4-0).
- The last time SMU played Tulsa was in the final regular season match of 2024 when the Mustangs lost 1-4 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Week Two
- SMU split its second week of competition with a 6-1 win over Louisiana after falling 3-4 to Wisconsin.
Winning Streaks
- No. 2-ranked Trevor Svajda, Georgi Georgiev and Jerry Barton has won three singles matches in a row.
- Svajda and Barton are 3-0 in singles play at the start of this season. They both have ranked wins.
- Georgiev is 3-1 playing on court three.
Servin' Svajda
- In the fall, Svajda defeated seven players ranked players ranked in the final ITA Fall Singles rankings.
- He has wins over Texas A&M's No. 112 Khololwam Montsi, Baylor's No. 17 Connor Henry Van Scharlkwyk, Florida's No. 31 Jeremy Jin, Auburn's No. 40 Amirkhamza Nasridinov, Illlinois's No. 10 Kenta Miyoshi, Mississippi State's No. 13 Petar Jovanovic and NC State's No. 9 Martin Borisiouk.
- Became the first Mustang to reach the championship match since Richey Reneberg in 1986. He fell in the final match 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 to defending champion Michael Zheng after defeating NC State's Martin Borisiouk 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinal round of the tournament. Svajda defeated Mississippi State's Petar Johanovic 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to become the first Mustang to reach the semifinals—also the first Mustang since Reneberg in 1986.
Nexo Dallas Open
- Svajda has earned a wild card main draw invite to the Nexo Dallas Open this year. The junior is set to make his third appearance in the ATP Tour event on Feb. 7 through 15.
