DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis claimed victory over UTRGV (5-2) at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.
 
The Mustangs won the first four points of the match to clinch the win at 4-0 before winning one of the remaining three singles matches.

Alex Finkelstein only lost one game across his doubles and singles matches. He won his singles match with a double bagel (6-0, 6-0) after being dominant in doubles in a 6-1 win with Krish Arora.
 
Freshman Matthew Faraci made his dual match debut for SMU in singles play, and Alex Stafford made his first appearance of the season in doubles play.
 
SMU also saw three new doubles pairs; Arora was paired with Finkelstein on court two of doubles, and Alex Stafford played with Meethre Barot on court three.

This was the first match of the season where SMU's lineup did not include Trevor Svajda and Georgi Georgiev.
 
How it Went
Arora and Finkelstein won the first match of the day by defeating Sam Whitehead and Will Roberts on court two of doubles play (6-1).
 
UTRGV forced a three-match doubles contest by winning court three as Santi Serrano and Loic Young defeated SMU's newly formed doubles pair of Barot and Stafford (6-2).
 
Jerry Barton and Vikas Deo clinched the doubles point for SMU, winning their match on court one (7-5).
 
Finkelstein came out dominant in singles play, winning his match on court one against Sam Whitehead (6-0, 6-0).
 
Barton made it 3-0 for SMU with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court three over Santi Serrano, and Arora clinched the win for SMU on court two (6-3, 6-2) over Ivo Isqueiro.
 
UTRGV's Michael Chan grabbed the visitors' first point of the match with a win over Faraci on court six (6-4, 6-3), and Loic Young won court five over Deo for the Vaqueros' second point (6-4, 4-6, 10-4).

Noah McDonald ended the day with a win on court four over Will Roberts (7-5, 4-6, 11-9) for the Mustangs' 5-2 win.
