DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis is set to take on No. 2 Ohio State to kick off the ITA National Team Indoor Championship at Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Friday.

The match is scheduled to begin at 12 pm CT, following the first match of the day between No. 4 Stanford and No. 22 Arizona State.

The Mustangs were seeded No. 8, while the Buckeyes earned the top seed on SMU's side of the bracket.

SMU at the ITA Indoors

• The Mustangs have two ITA National Indoor Championship titles. They won their first title in 1979 under the guidance of Bill McClain, and their second championship in 1983 under Dennis Ralston.
• SMU hosted the tournament last season.

Matchup and Scout

• SMU has only played Ohio State three times and has a 3-0 all-time record. The last meeting between the two teams was in 1991 when the Mustangs won 6-3.
• Ohio State is undefeated this season and is coming off a 5-2 win over No. 1 Virginia at home.
• Buckeyes have the current No. 1 doubles pair in the ITA (Brandon Carpico and Nikita Filin).
• Five Buckeyes were ranked in the ITA singles ranking on Feb. 4 (No. 13 Aidan Kim, No. 22 Preston Stearns, No. 24 Jack Anthrop, No. 29 Alex Okonkwo and No. 98 Nikita Filin).

Parking Information

• Last time the Mustangs were on the courts, SMU defeated Tulsa 4-1.
• SMU dominated singles play, winning courts 1, 4 and 5 in straight sets.
• Trevor Svajda extended his singles play winning streak to five matches.

Servin' Svajda

• Trevor Svajda is ranked No. 1 in the ITA singles rankings as of Feb. 4.
• He is undefeated in singles play this spring with a 5-0 record, not dropping a single set through all five matches.
• In the fall, Svajda defeated seven players ranked in the final ITA Fall Singles rankings.
• He has wins over Texas A&M's No. 112 Khololwam Montsi, Baylor's No. 17 Connor Henry Van Scharlkwyk, Florida's No. 31 Jeremy Jin, Auburn's No. 40 Amirkhamza Nasridinov, Illlinois's No. 10 Kenta Miyoshi, Mississippi State's No. 13 Petar Jovanovic and NC State's No. 9 Martin Borisiouk.
• Became the first Mustang to reach the championship match since Richey Reneberg in 1986. He fell in the final match 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 to defending champion Michael Zheng after defeating NC State's Martin Borisiouk 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinal round of the tournament. Svajda defeated Mississippi State's Petar Johanovic 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to become the first Mustang to reach the semifinals—also the first Mustang since Reneberg in 1986.
