Mustangs Sweep ACC Opener At Virginia Tech

Box Score

BLACKSBURG, Va. (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis won 4-0 at Virginia Tech to kick off its Atlantic Coast Conference campaign on Friday.

The Mustangs earned the doubles point after seeing through all three matches and won three consecutive singles matches in straight sets to win the match.

"Really good road battle. It was so much closer than the score indicated. We had to juggle the adversity that came our way with the unknown weather and court conditions," said Head Coach Grant Chen.

"Today, we ended up with beautiful spring conditions and are proud of the team for finding a way to get four points on the board. Doubles came down to the wire with a roller coaster set at line 3. Tons of credit to Noah, who played efficient tennis to win a pivotal line. Georgi and Trevor both did what they needed to do to get singles & doubles victories."

Trevor Svajda remains undefeated without dropping a set as he improves his singles record to 10-0 this season.

Georgi Georgiev won his fourth consecutive straight set singles match to improve his record to 8-2 this spring while Noah McDonald earned his sixth singles win of the spring.

"Great first ACC match and happy to get the win on the road. It was tough conditions out there today with the wind, but happy with how all of the guys battled and handled it," said McDonald. "Line three doubles was very close, but credit to Vikas and Georgi for coming through at the end."

SMU is now 9-5 as it prepares to face No. 2 Virginia in its second ACC match of the season.
