CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis fell 4-2 at No. 2 Virginia in its second Atlantic Coast Conference match on Sunday.
 
The Mustangs won the doubles point in a close battle that saw two tiebreakers. Trevor Svajda and Jerry Barton remain undefeated as a doubles pair with a 3-0 record.

Krish Arora grabbed his seventh singles win of the season and is undefeated in his last four matches. 

The second-ranked Cavaliers are the Mustangs' second No.2-ranked opponent this season. They fell short 4-3 to No. 2 Ohio State earlier this season.

"We are trending and progressing in the right direction. I was pleased with how the boys performed in doubles," said Head Coach Grant Chen.

"There are very little margins when playing UVA and we did a good job holding serve. We competed well in singles but ultimately came up short in third sets. Credit to Virginia. We look forward to playing at home this weekend hosting UNC & Duke."
 
SMU has a 9-6 record going into its ACC home opener on Friday.
 
How it Went
Trevor Svajda and Jerry Barton showed their dominant doubles form by winning their match on court two 6-1 over Jangjun Kim and Andres Santamarta.
 
Both doubles matches on courts one and three went to tiebreakers, but the Mustangs prevailed in winning the first point as Georgi Georgiev and Vikas Deo defeated Keegan Rice and Stiles Brockett on court three (7-6(4)).
 
UVA won the first point of singles play. Jerry Barton fell on court four of singles play against No. 24 Andres Santamarta (6-3, 6-2).
 
No. 96 Alex Finkelstein fell to No. 12 Keegan Rice on court two as UVA took the lead, but Krish Arora responded quickly on court five with a win over Stiles Brockett (7-6(6), 6-4) to tie the scorecards at 2-2.
 
No. 1 Svajda fell on court one to No. 2 Dylan Dietrich (3-6, 6-1, 6-3) for the Cavaliers's lead, then the hosts clinched the match as Mans Dahlberg defeated Meethre Barot (4-6, 6-2, 6-1) on court six.
