DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis junior Trevor Svajda has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week and was ranked the No. 1 singles player in the nation by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, as announced by the ACC and ITA on Tuesday.

The award is Svajda's third ACC Player of the Week honor this season. He was named ACC Player of the Week on Feb. 3 and Feb. 17.

The junior also reclaimed the top-ranked ITA singles spot today after dropping to No. 2 on March 3. He was ranked No. 1 in the ITA singles ranking on Feb. 4 and Feb. 19.

Svajda went 3-0 in singles play last week. He clinched SMU's win at No. 8 Baylor by defeating No. 12 Devin Badenhost (3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6)) before claiming wins over Samir Banerjee of Stanford (6-4, 2-6, 6-3) and Cal's Fryderyk Lechno-Wasuitynski (6-1, 3-6, 6-3) on the weekend.

The California native is 15-1 in singles play with six ranked wins. He has dropped only five sets out of 40 played this season.

With Svajda at its core, SMU went 2-1 last week after playing two top-25 teams at No. 8 Baylor and No. 24 Stanford. The team improved its ACC record to 4-2 and its overall record to 14-7.

Svajda and the No. 29 Mustangs will return home to face No. 54 Miami at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex at 2 pm CT on Friday.
