DALLAS (SMU) – No. 29 SMU Men's Tennis is set to host No. 54 Miami on Friday before taking on No. 47 Florida State on Sunday to resume Atlantic Coast Conference play at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex this weekend.

The Mustangs' match against Miami will begin at 2 pm CT and Sunday's match will start at noon.

SMU's roster will feature the current top-ranked singles player, Trevor Svajda, who reclaimed his No. 1 ranking after a 3-0 week in singles play against No. 8 Baylor, No. 24 Stanford and Cal.

2-1 Road Week
  • SMU went 2-1 last week after facing two top-25 opponents, including a win over No. 8 Baylor. 
  • The Mustangs are coming off a 4-3 win at No. 56 California on Sunday.
  • SMU fell at No. 24 Stanford last Friday after upsetting No. 8 Baylor 4-2 in Waco on March 10.
No Bear Zone
  • The Mustangs earned a historic win at No. 8 Baylor.
  • The win marks SMU's first win over Baylor since 2001. It is the team's first win at Waco since 1996.
  • Defeating No. 8 Baylor also marks SMU's highest-ranked win since the team defeated No. 4 TCU in 2001.
  • Highest-ranked win under Head Coach Grant Chen.
Numbers to the Mustangs
  • The Mustangs sit at No. 29 in the ITA team rankings on March 17. It is the highest team ranking since May 25, 2022.
  • Trevor Svajda reclaimed the No. 1 singles ranking following his three wins last week.
  • Alex Finkelstein moved up to No. 102 in the singles ranking after going to 2-0 in California.
Servin' Svajda
  • Trevor Svajda is the top-ranked singles player in college tennis. This is his third week as the No. 1-ranked singles player this season.
  • He is 15-1 in singles play this spring and has only dropped five sets out of the 40 he has played.
  • Svajda earned a wild card qualifiers invite to the ATP1000 Indian Wells Open earlier this week.
  • He became the first Mustang to win an ATP 1000-level match since Richey Reneberg in 1999.
  • He has five singles wins against ranked opponents. He defeated Baylor's No. 12 Devin Badenhorst, Ohio State's No. 13 Aidan Kim and Florida's No. 54 Adhitya Ganesan.
  • Svajda has been named Player of the Week twice this season (Feb. 3 and Feb. 17).
  • In the fall, Svajda defeated seven players ranked in the final ITA Fall Singles rankings.
  • He has wins over Texas A&M's No. 112 Khololwam Montsi, Baylor's No. 17 Connor Henry Van Scharlkwyk, Florida's No. 31 Jeremy Jin, Auburn's No. 40 Amirkhamza Nasridinov, Illlinois's No. 10 Kenta Miyoshi, Mississippi State's No. 13 Petar Jovanovic and NC State's No. 9 Martin Borisiouk.
  • Became the first Mustang to reach the championship match since Richey Reneberg in 1986. He fell in the final match 4-6, 6-1, 2-6 to defending champion Michael Zheng after defeating NC State's Martin Borisiouk 6-2, 6-0 in the semifinal round of the tournament. Svajda defeated Mississippi State's Petar Johanovic 6-3, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to become the first Mustang to reach the semifinals—also the first Mustang since Reneberg in 1986.

Mustangs Dominate POTW Honors
  • SMU has won the most ACC Player of the Week honors this season. Winning five out of the 10 awards honored.
  • Three Mustangs earned their first ACC Player of the Week honors this season.
  • Trevor Svajda is a three-time ACC player of the week honoree (Feb. 13, Feb. 17 and March 17).
  • Jerry Barton (Jan. 13) and Georgi Georgiev (March 10) earned their first weekly honors.
New Faces
  • SMU welcomed three transfers prior to the fall season.
  • Krish Arora came to the Hilltop after spending two years at Georgia Tech. The incoming junior posted a 29-24 singles record as a Yellow Jacket. Arora was ranked as high as No. 19 in the ITA doubles rankings with Clement. Notably, he competed in the 2024 US Junior US Open.
  • Matthew Faraci hails from Manakin Sabot, Virginia. Faraci is a two-time VISAA Player of the Year and was named All-Metro Richmond Player of the Year this past season. He was undefeated in his two final high school seasons.
  • Alex Finkelstein joined the Mustangs after three years at Brown. Prior to Brown, the Raynham, Massachusetts, native played his freshman year at Columbia. Played as Brown's No. 1 singles player, posting an overall record of 17-10 and a 15-8 record in dual match play. He is ranked No. 123 in the final ITA singles rankings and was ranked as high as No. 115 on April 15. Ended the season as the No. 6 Singles performer in the New England Region by the ITA.
