DALLAS (SMU) – No. 29 SMU Men's Tennis won 4-1 against No. 47 Florida State at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex on Sunday.
 
The Mustangs edged Florida State in a tight doubles match, where they clinched the match in a tiebreaker on court one. The hosts then won three of the four completed singles matches to clinch the match 4-1.
 
SMU grabbed doubles wins from court three pair Georgi Georgiev and Vikas Deo, and court one pair Krish Arora and Alex Finkelstein, before dominating the match with singles wins from Trevor Svajda, Noah McDonald and Jerry Barton.
 
Georgiev and Deo are 10-2 as a doubles pair this season, following their win today, while Arora and Finkelstein are 4-7.
 
Svajda won his eighth ranked win of the spring to improve his singles record to 17-1, surpassing his single-season high of singles wins.
 
McDonald won his fifth straight set match of the season, improving his record to 10-8 this season.
 
Barton clinched the winner in a three-set battle on court five, claiming his 11th singles win of the season.
 
The Mustangs are 5-3 in ACC play and 15-8 overall as they prepare to face No. 52 Notre Dame at home on Friday.
 
How it Went
The Mustangs won the doubles point in a tight 2-1 contest to start the day.
 
Jerry Barton and Trevor Svajda fell to Luis Felipe Miguel and Mohammad Alkotop on court two (6-4).
 
Georgi Georgiev and Vikas Deo won court three of doubles against Oren Ezerzer and Gabor Hornung (6-3) before Alex Finkelstein and Krish Arora clinched the match on court one with a tiebreaker win against Jan Sebesta and Erik Schiessl (7-6(3)).
 
The Mustangs entered singles play with a 1-0 lead.
 
No. 1 Svajda won his 17th singles match of the season on court one against No. 121 Felipe Miguel (6-1, 6-2) to extend the lead to 2-0 for SMU.
 
FSU's No. 92 Erik Schiessl reduced the visitors' deficit by defeating No. 102 Alex Finkelstein (6-3, 6-2) on court two, but Noah McDonald won in straight sets on court six against Justin Lyons (6-3, 6-3) to bring the Mustangs to 3-1.
 
Barton clinched the match at 4-1 for SMU on court five with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-0 win over Gabor Hornung. Georgi Georgiev was leading 7-5, 6-5, but his match was recorded as unfinished.
