McGinley Clinches 4-3 Win at Notre Dame

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (SMU) – Caroline McGinley clinched a 4-3 win for SMU Women's Tennis (12-5, 6-4 ACC) in South Bend, coming from behind to win a three-set match to defeat Notre Dame Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs completed the weekend sweep with the victory, earning their seventh road win of the season and fifth against ACC members. SMU defeated Louisville 4-0 on Friday.

Notre Dame took the doubles point on their home court, winning on courts one and two to open the day. No. 10-ranked Amelie Van Impe and Caroline McGinley fell for just the second time this season, dropping their court one matchup to Notre Dame's court one pair of Bianca Molnar and Bojana Pozder who is ranked No. 45 in the country this week.

Sophie Llewellyn and Natalie Stasny also fell in doubles on court two, dropping just their fourth match of dual play together. The court three matchup featuring Addison Comiskey and Ellie Mireles was deemed unfinished at 6-6.

SMU needed four of the six courts to go their way in singles to win the day and got just that, starting with a 6-2, 6-2 win for No. 63 Van Impe on court one over Akari Matsuno of Notre Dame.

The Fighting Irish took back the narrow lead on court five with a 6-1, 6-4 win. Ellie Mireles responded for the Mustangs with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Rylie Hanford of Notre Dame.

In the only ranked singles matchup of the day, No. 77-ranked Bianca Molnar got the best of No. 61 Sophie Llewellyn, defeating the sophomore 6-2, 6-3 on court two.

Addison Comiskey got a must-win to keep the match alive on court six, defeating Notre Dame's Gabriella Rawles 6-4, 6-3, which left it up to Caroline McGinley with her match still in progress on court three.

Shortly after the result on court six, McGinley began the first leg of her comeback effort, winning the second frame of her match 6-3, after falling in the first set 6-4. However, McGinley cruised in the third set to claim her 10th win of the season and her fourth straight decision, winning 6-2 in the final set to give SMU the 4-3 win.

McGinley improved to 10-2 with the victory, tying Llewellyn for the team lead in victories this spring. The junior moved to 5-2 in ACC matches this season.
