DALLAS (SMU) — SMU Men's Tennis was selected to face Princeton in the first round of the NCAA Championship at No. 2 overall seed Texas, as announced by the NCAA Selection Show on Monday.
The Mustangs are set to play at 10 am CT at Weller Tennis Center in Austin, Texas, on Friday. The last time SMU played Princeton was in 1995, when the Mustangs won 5-2. The Mustangs also won against the Tigers in the 1977 NCAA Championship.
SMU has made four out of the last five NCAA tournaments. In 2024, the Mustangs lost to Stanford in the first round in Norman, Oklahoma.
Trevor Svajda finished runner-up at the NCAA Individual Championship this fall. Becoming the first Mustang to make the championship match since Richey Reneberg in 1986, and the first All-American since 2004.
The Mustangs closed their regular season with a 19-10 overall record and an 8-5 conference record. They were tied for fifth in the final ACC standings and recorded two top-25 wins, including a victory at No. 8 Baylor, their first against the Bears since 2001 and their first in Waco, Texas, since 1996.
