SMU Falls To No. 2 Texas In NCAA Championship Second Round

AUSTIN, Texas (SMU) – SMU Men's Tennis fell to No. 2 overall seed Texas 4-0 in the second round of the NCAA Championship at Texas Tennis Center in Austin, Texas, on Saturday.
 
The Mustangs dropped the doubles point in a close contest before the Longhorns won three consecutive singles matches to claim the win.
 
SMU made its 16th NCAA Championship second-round appearance and first under Head Coach Grant Chen. The first-round win was also the Mustangs first NCAA Championship match win since 2016.
 
The Mustangs wrapped their season with a 20-12 overall record. It marks their 14th season with 20 or more wins, second under Head Coach Grant Chen.
 
How it Went
The hosts took the first point of the day by winning courts one and two of doubles play. The Mustangs trailed closely on all three courts, leading the tiebreaker on court three, but the Longhorns edged the win.
 
Texas' Lucas Marionneau defeated Noah McDonald on court six (6-4, 6-1), No. 102 Abel Forger won against Krish Arora on court four (6-2, 6-2) and No. 41 Kalin Ivanovski defeated Georgi Georgiev on court three (6-3, 6-2) to close the match.
 
The hosts won 4-0.
