CHARLOTTE, N.C. (theACC/SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer senior Jaylinn Mitchell was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the conference on Tuesday.
 
Mitchell was crucial in SMU's two shutout wins against No. 4 Saint Louis and LMU last week, while also tallying three assists as a wingback through the two games.
 
A rock in defense and a handful in offense, Mitchell and the Mustangs' defense line held No. 4 SLU to one shot on goal in St. Louis. In the attack, the California native made two assists and won a penalty to contribute to three of the four goals in SMU's 4-0 win at SLU. He has a total of six goal involvements in the first four games of the season (one goal, five assists), leading the ACC in assists with five.

The Mustangs moved up to No. 3 in this week's United Soccer Coaches rankings after starting the season with a 4-0-0 record, including a top-five win at No. 4 Saint Louis (4-0). 
 
Mitchell and No. 3 SMU will return to Washburne Stadium to face Kansas City on Friday, following their 6-0 victory against HCU on Monday.
