Huang Holds Third Place After Two Rounds Of Stephens Cup

FRISCO, Texas (SMU) – SMU men's golfer Alex Huang sits in the top-five as the Mustangs are tied fourth after two rounds of play at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup on Monday.Â
 After shooting a 77 in the opening round, the Mustangs finished the second of play with a 75 and ended the day tied for fourth with Utah with a score of 8-over par 36-hole total. Leading the way for the Mustangs was Huang who posted a 68 on round two and is tied for fifth at 3-under par.Â
Between both rounds, Huang held eight birdies, four of which were in the last five holes. He carded a 68 in round two, evenly splitting 34 on the front and back nine. He sits at a tie in fifth place, three strokes behind first place.
Ben Steinmann finished the day tied at 20th at five over-par. The Switzerland native had back-to-back birdies on holes eight and nine to break even on the front nine in round two.
Matthew Foster and Gabe Post finished the day both in a tie at 24th at six over-par. Post turned it around in the second round shooting a 70, moving up 11 spots in the standings after round one. Foster started the day off strong with three birdies and only carded one hole over par.Â
Morgan Slaton shot a 76 and 78 to sit in a tie at 31st with 10 over-par.
The Mustangs return for round three on Tuesday. The top two teams after three rounds will advance to the final and the third and fourth place teams will meet in a match play pairing as well with the winner taking third place. Coverage will be available on the Golf Channel each of the next two days.
