Overview: SMU Athletics is dedicated to fostering a passion for service among student-athletes at SMU, Dallas, and in personal communities. As part of this commitment, student-athletes are encouraged to volunteer in addition to the 15 hours of service required through academic experiences and proficiencies of all students’ curricula. We challenge each student-athlete to engage with new groups and our established partners, contributing to many impactful initiatives.
Our service guidelines are organized into three pillars:
- Education and Community:
- Children/youth programming
- Civic engagement initiatives
- Education and literacy promotion
- Elderly/senior community engagement
- Health and Wellness:
- Initiatives promoting mental and physical health
- Human services to address needs such as housing, food, and finances
- Environment and Animals:
- Protecting and improving nature
- Care and welfare of animals
- Disaster preparedness and relief efforts
In addition to these pillars, we encourage all student-athletes to seek organizations and initiatives they are passionate about.

Weekly Service Opportunities: Please see our weekly service opportunities below with our three designated community partners for this academic year.

Student-athletes can log both the standard weekly opportunities and personal initiatives through our tracking partner, Helper Helper. This system provides a holistic overview of each student-athlete’s service throughout their time at SMU.
