Avery Bethel joined the SMU Rowing Staff as the Director of Operations in August of 2025. Bethel oversees the day-to-day operations and logistics of the program.
Prior to joining head coach Chase Graham in a full-time role, Bethel was a standout on the Rowing squad. During her senior campaign, Bethel raced with the 1v8 squad and finished fifth on day one of the 2025 ACC Championship (6:33.999), finishing ahead of Notre Dame.
In 2024, she won the 1v4 at the AAC Championships, helping the Mustangs to a team conference title. Bethel also raced with the 1v4 at the NCAA Championships, finishing first in the D final.
Before rowing at SMU, Bethel was a member of the UCF rowing team, serving as an integral member of the squad throughout two seasons in Orlando.
Bethel graduated from SMU in 2025 with a degree in Sports Management.
