Brian Porth returned to SMU as the Director of Scouting and Video Analytics/Assistant Coach for SMU women's basketball in July of 2023.
Porth returns to the Hilltop after serving as the Head Coach for the Arizona Elite AAU Basketball Club since 2015. In his role with Arizona Elite, Porth led all aspects of the club, including budgets, player development, and NCAA/NAIA recruiting coordination. During his time with Arizona Elite, the club grew from 18 athletes to over 100 while going from two to 10 plus teams.
Porth was a Head Scout for the New York Liberty from 2019-2022. There, he created scouting reports for every opponent in the WNBA.
Before his time in the WNBA and AAU, Porth was the Head Women's Basketball Coach at Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. Porth guided Chaparral to the Class 5A State Championship in 2018. He was named the 2018 Conference Coach of the Year and the Regional Coach of the Year in 2018 and 2019.
From 2012-14, Porth was an advanced scout for the Utah Jazz after serving as an Assistant Coach for Great Britain's U20 National Team in 2011.
Porth was the Head Coach for Coventry University in Coventry, England (2010-2011) and The University of Oxford in Oxford, England (2008-2009). He guided Coventry to an 11-3 record (t-9th Nationally) and finished his career with a 15-3 mark at Oxford (t-5th Nationally), and earned the team a promotion to the Premier League.
Porth worked as a Video Analysis Logger for Synergy Sports Technologies from 2011-12, performing advanced video analysis of Division I Men's and Women's College basketball games.
He started his career at SMU as the Video Coordinator and Assistant Camp Director from 2007-2010.
Porth graduated from SMU in 2007 with a History degree and a Political Science minor.
