Herman Hudson is in his 22nd season (2025-26) at SMU; his third as Assistant A.D. for Public Relations. He handles day-to-day public relations for men’s basketball. Additionally, Hudson helps manage SMUMustangs.com, the SMU Mobile App and the social media presence for SMU Athletics.
He joined the Mustangs after three seasons as the Director of Public Relations and Broadcasting for the Dallas Sidekicks. He is also in his 26th season with the Dallas Mavericks gameday operations, and has been on the official stat crew since the 2005-06 season. Additionally, he has worked with the stat crew for the Cotton Bowl since 2013 and the official stat crew for the Dallas Cowboys since 2021. In 2013, the SMU public relations team was honored by the Football Writers Association of America with the "Super 11" Award for excellence in sports information.
Hudson went to the Sidekicks after spending the 2000 National Football League season with the Indianapolis Colts Public Relations staff. He spent the previous two years in the Indiana University sports information office.
Hudson has also assisted at many NCAA and conference championship events, including the NCAA Division I men's basketball championships in 1999, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011 (Final Four), 2014 (Final Four), 2018 and 2024; Division I women's basketball in 1998, 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2023 (Final Four); the 2008 NCAA Men’s Soccer College Cup; and the 1999 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. He also assisted with media relations at the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Elite Eight from 1998-2000 and the NCAA Division I & II Indoor Track & Field Championships in 1998 and 1999.Â
Prior to Indiana University, Hudson attended the College of Mount Saint Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he played football and baseball. Hudson has a B.S. in kinesiology from Indiana University. He and his wife Stefanie have three sons: Luke, Grant and Blake.
