Mohamed Fahim Named Soccer Times.com National Player of the Week

SMU sophomore forward Mohamed Fahim was named the Soccer Times.com National Player of the Week on Wednesday. He is the first SMU player to earn the weekly honor, which started this season.

Fahim, a native of Cairo, Egypt, led the Mustangs to the Golden Panther Soccer Classic title with wins over Florida International and Bowling Green State, Sept. 24-26 in Miami, Fla. Fahim scored a hat trick against FIU on Friday as SMU topped the Panthers 3-0. He then scored the game-winning goal on Sunday as the Mustangs topped Bowling Green State 2-1. Fahim, who was named Offensive MVP of the tournament, is leading SMU with seven goals and 16 points.

Fahim, who also earned WAC Player of the Week honors and was named to Soccer America's Team of the Week, is leading the WAC in both points and goals. He is tied for 18th nationally with a 1.00 goals-per-game average.

SMU (6-1), which is ranked No. 11 by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and eighth by Soccer America, returns to action Sunday at home against Midwestern State. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Westcott Field. Admission is $3.00 for children and $5.00 for adults.
