Ibarra-Perez, King Promoted To Associate Head Coaches

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer's Jaime Ibarra-Perez and Michael King have been promoted to associate head coach, as announced on Friday.

"Jaime and Michael are extremely deserving of these promotions. Both are vital members of the coaching staff and have played key roles in the continued success of the SMU Men's Soccer program," said Head Coach Kevin Hudson.

"They are both very talented and I feel extremely fortunate to work alongside them to help shape the future of the program."

The Mustangs are coming off a historic season in which they won SMU's first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference Championship, following their NCAA Championship quarterfinals run the year prior with Ibarra-Perez and King as assistant coaches.

Ibarra-Perez earned his promotion after serving as the Mustangs' assistant coach and goalkeeping coach for two years. Under his guidance, SMU's goalkeepers recorded 14 clean sheets—seven in each of the last two seasons.

The Dallas native was a goalkeeper for SMU from 2010 until 2013, starting 57 matches for the Mustangs and earning the 2012 Conference USA Player of the Year award. He helped the Mustangs to three conference championships and three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the NCAA quarterfinals in 2010.

King has been SMU's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator since the 2021 season. As an assistant coach, King has helped the Mustangs win the 2023 American Athletic Conference regular-season championship.

A defender for SMU from 2012 to 2016, King was part of the Mustangs' 2016 team that made the NCAA Sweet 16. He saw action in 60 games, including 49 starts, while tallying one assist and nine shots—helping anchor a Mustang backline that totaled 20 shutouts with him on the pitch.
