The sixth ranked SMU men's tennis team lost its first dual match of the season, 2-5 to No. 20 Texas in Austin Saturday.
Earning points for SMU were Dustin Mauck and Genius Chidzikwe. Mauck, 6-3 in singles matches this season, scored a 6-4, 6-1 win over Nick Crowell at second singles, and Chidzekwe stayed unbeaten in five matches with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Jean Simon at fifth singles. He and doubles partner Gerardo Mulas also won the only doubles' match for the Mustangs with an 8-6 win over Stephen Patak and Ron Kloppert in the third spot.
SMU is now 6-1 on the season and will next face Louisville in Louisville, Kent., Tuesday, February 22 at 5 p.m. before competing at the USTA/ITA National Team Indoor Championships Feb. 24-27.
