The No. 15 SMU men's swimming & diving team set a new school record in the 200 medley relay Friday at the NCAA Championships in route to finishing 12th after two days of competition at the Student Recreation Center Natatorium on the campus of Texas A&M University in College Station. The Mustangs have tallied 78 points through two days of outstanding competition that has seen four American, four NCAA, and four U.S. Open records set.

SMU's 200 medley relay team of Jakob Andersen, Billy Coleman, Brandon Jernigan, and Matt Weghorst set a new school record, finishing fifth in the finals with a time of 1:27.20. The old mark, set earlier this year by the same team, stood at 1:27.65. Texas' team won the event setting a NCAA, American, U.S. Open, and Pool record in the event.

The Mustangs bookend the day with All-American relay showings, finishing the night with a 15th place showing in the 800 free relay as Jernigan, Bark Wickard, Andersen, and Tim Carlson recorded a time of 6:39.36.

In between those All-American relay showings, the freshman Andersen earned All-American honors in the 100 backstroke, finishing tenth with a time of 48.44 in the event.

Overall, Texas leads with 447.5 points, some 110 points more than second place Stanford, who has carded 337.5.

The 2001 NCAA Championships end Saturday with a full day of events beginning with preliminary action at 12 noon.
