DENVER, Colo. -- SMU tennis players Gwinyai Chingoka and Jenny Langer were named Men's and Women's WAC Players of the Week conference officials announced Monday. This is the third time this season that both selections were from the same school.
Chingoka, a sophomore from Harare, Zimbabwe, went 3-1 from his No. 1 singles spot and 3-0 in doubles. In his three wins, he lost only one set. His only loss came to 29th-ranked Richard Barker of Rice. Chingoka enters this week?s WAC Championship winning six of his last seven matches.
Langer, a sophomore from Louisville, Ky., went 2-0 on the week, defeating North Texas? Sandyha Kanury, 6-3, 6-2 and Tulsa?s Daniela Muscolino, 6-3, 7-5 (10-5). Langer is now 24-11 in singles on the season, winning her last five matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions.
Both SMU Tennis teams head to the WAC Championships this week in Boise, Idaho. The men completed the regular season 14-10 overall and 1-1 in the WAC. The women are currently 16-10 and will close out the regular season North Texas and Louisiana Tech in a doubleheader on Monday, April 21st.
