Volleyball Signs Three Recruits for 2006

Candice Davis (League City, Texas), Kendra Kahanek (Houtson, Texas) and Adrienne Zielasko (Mission Viejo, Calif) have signed national letters-of-intent to attend SMU and will begin play with the volleyball team in fall, 2006 as announced by SMU head coach Lisa Seifert.
Davis, a 5-8 outside hitter at Clear Creek High School, capped off a solid high school career earlier this month. She finished the year ranked in the top-10 for Houston area players in both kills (396) and digs (426). Davis was also named 2005 District 24-5A MVP and garnered District 24-5A first-team honors in 2004 and 2005. In addition to the district-wide recognition, she was selected first-team All-Galveston County in 2004-2005. Davis helped Clear Creek win the District 24-5A championship, the Region III Area Championship and advance to the quarterfinals of the Region III Championship. She is a two-time member of the Lone Star High Performance Team.
Seifert on Davis...
"Candice is an amazing athlete and person," Seifert said. "She will help us on the left side right away. Not only is she a great athlete, but she has a winning attitude and is very coachable."
A 6-2 middle blocker, Kahanek currently attends Lutheran South Academy in Houston, Texas. She helped lead Lutheran South to five tournament titles in 2005 and was named to the Ft. Worth Christian Academy All-Tournament Team. Kahanek was selected to the TAPPS 5A All-State first-team in both 2004 and 2005, as well as the TAPPS District 4-5A All-District first-team the last two seasons. She was a member of Lutheran South's 2003 and 2004 state runner-up teams in TAPPS 5A and has played middle blocker for Club Texas Volleyball since 2001.
Seifert on Kahanek...
"Kendra is a prototypical middle," Seifert stated. "She is long, athletic, has a fast arm and is a smart player. Kendra will see playing time her freshman year and when she gets physically stronger, she will be a dominant force in C-USA."
Zielasko is a 6-0 middle blocker from Calif., where she attends Mission Viejo High School. She was team captain in 2005 and has been a varsity starter since her sophomore season. Zielasko led the South Coast League in blocking her senior year and was named to the All-South Coast League first-team as both a junior and senior. She hit .580 in 2005 and also started two seasons on the varsity basketball team. Zielasko has played the last three years for the Laguna Beach Volleyball Club.
Seifert on Zielasko...
"Adrienne was slowed down during the past club season with a high ankle sprain, but has recovered nicely," Seifert commented. "We are very much looking forward to adding her to the team. She will be able to help us in a variety of ways, either on the pin or in the middle."
