Women's Soccer Earns Fifth Consecutive NCAA Postseason Berth

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team earned a spot in the 2005 NCAA Women's Soccer Tournament, as announced by the NCAA Monday afternoon. This marks the fifth consecutive year in which SMU will compete in the tournament. The Mustangs (14-4-2) will face Sun Belt Conference tournament winner North Texas (16-3-2) Friday in first-round action at College Station, Texas. Game time is slated for 5:00 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium. Following the SMU-North Texas game is SLC champs Northwestern State (13-5-1) vs. host Big 12 champs Texas A&M (16-3-2) at 8:00 p.m. The two winners will play on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. for a Sweet 16 berth.
SMU and North Texas faced each other earlier this season (Sept. 4), with the Mustangs dropping a 3-1 decision to the Lady Eagles in Dallas. In the series history, SMU holds a 9-3-2 advantage over North Texas. Friday's game marks the first time the two teams will be meeting in postseason play.
SMU's all-time NCAA Tournament record is 7-9-1, having gone 2-3-1 the last four years.
