BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (SMU) - The SMU men's golf team finished 10th at the Shoal Creek Intercollegiate at the par-72, 7,114-yard Shoal Creek Country Club course. The Mustangs carded rounds of 297, 290 and 297 to finish at 20-over 884, 21 shots behind champion LSU. LSU's team score of 863 was one-under for the 54-hole tournament.
Will Dodson carded three rounds of 73 to finish tied for 20th at 3-over. Brandon DeStefano improved every round, shooting 76-73-71 to finish tied for 25th at 4-over 220. Dan Kleckner was up and down, firing rounds of 78-70-76 and finished tied for 43rd 8-over 224. Wes Homan (73-76-77-226-+10-T51st) and Colt Knost (75-74-81-230-+14-62nd) rounded out the SMU group.
East Tennessee State's Rhys Davies and Tennessee's Jonathan Mount were declared co-champions after playing even on a four-hole playoff. Notre Dame's Cole Isban (69-69-72) was knocked out on the first playoff hole. Davies scores were 72-70-68 and Mount carded rounds of 70-69-71. The trio finished the 54-hole tournament at six-under par 210.
SMU returns to the course this weekend at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate in Franklin, Tenn.
