DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team opened its season with a 5-2 win over previously undefeated Arkansas-Little Rock on Saturday, Jan. 28.

At No. 1 singles, SMU's Peter Oredsson scored a 6-4, 7-6 (3) win over UALR's Eduardo Autran. Alex Skrypko continued SMU's winning ways at No. 3, defeating Ivan Milivojevic 6-2, 6-4, and Mustang David Kuczer topped Rain Roigas 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4. Also claiming a win for SMU was Oivind Alver, who posted a 6-4, 7-5 win over Juan Carlos Nunez.

Following the singles matches, SMU swept all three doubles contests. Murgier and Soderberg bested Abrao and Autran, 8-5, Alver and Oredsson topped Halachev and Milivojevic, 8-6, and Kuczer and Skrypko finished off German Perez and Roigas, 8-6.

"This is a really good win for us," said SMU Coach Carl Neufeld. "Arkansas-Little Rock came in undefeated and playing sharply and I thought our guys responded well."

SMU takes the court again on Sunday, Jan. 29, when the Ponies host Texas Southern at noon at Haggar Stadium on the SMU campus.
