Stanford, Calif. - Members of the SMU women's track and field squad are among the 4,000 athletes competing in this weekend's Stanford Invitational.
In only her second-ever outdoor 5K race, sophomore Rachael Forish turned in an NCAA regional qualifying time of 16:37.36 Friday in the 5,000-meter run. The Arlington, Texas, native recorded SMU's fourth-best all-time mark in the outdoor event and bettered her prevous mark by 63 seconds which she ran at last year's WAC Outdoor Championships. Teammate Jessie Jackson also ran her first-ever 5K outdoor event in a time of 17:14.44. Anne Gustafson finished the 5K event in a time of 18:53.16.
In the women's heptathlon held Thursday at the Cal Multi Events meet, junior Franziska Lakomy placed third (out of 21 competitors) with 4,885 points.
SMU splits its squad Saturday with a number of athletes finishing up at the Stanford Invitational while at least eight Mustangs will be competing at the Bobby Lane Arlington Invitational.
