NOTRE DAME, Ind. (SMU) - The men's tennis team faced a tough match-up against #17 Notre Dame as they headed to the home courts of the Fighting Irish. The Mustangs fell, 5-2, as they are now 14-6 on the season.
The Mustangs took the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and 3. David Kuczer and Alex Skrypko fought with Barry King and Eric Langenkamp at the No. 1 spot but were unable to come out with a win as they fell, 8-4. The duo of Oivind Alver and Peter Oredsson knotted the points at one a-piece as they defeated Brett Helgeson and Sheeva Parbhu, 8-4. Federico Murgier and Henrik Soderberg clinched the doubles point with a 9-8 win over Stephen Bass and Santiago Montoya at No. 3.
In singles action, Alver notched a Mustang win at No. 6 against Patrick Buchanan, 6-4, 6-2. Soderberg fell in a close match-up to King, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), at No. 4 while Kuczer fell to Langenkamp, 7-6 (7-3), 6-0, at No. 5.
#33 Oredsson was unable to overturn #16 Bass at No. 1, 6-4, 6-4, as Murgier suffered defeat to Helgeson, 7-6 (7-1), 6-4, at No. 3. Skrypko faced a tough match-up against #31 Parbhu but was unable to overcome the Irish as he fell in two tie-breakers, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-5), at No. 2.
The Mustangs have tow more road trip to OSU and Tulsa before they conclude their regular season at home against Rice.
