Mustangs Power Over Lamar, 4-0

TULSA, Okla. (SMU) - The No. 45 SMU women's team met Lamar in Tulsa for a Friday night match as the Mustangs powered past Lamar, 4-0, advancing to 6-1 on the season.

"This was the best start in doubles that we have had this season," head coach Lauren Longbotham said. "I was really proud of how the girls came out and started the tempo off right with the doubles. They set the tone for the rest of the match in their doubles play and we would like the carry that momentum through the rest of the weekend."

Natalia Bubien and Claire Rietsch claimed the first doubles point with a, 8-2, win over Kaltrina Harbuzi and Tanya Roberts at No. 1. Kristen Reid and Monica Neveklovska then closed on a, 8-1, win over Maria Gutierrez and Manami Kuroda at No. 3 while Jennifer Chay and Pavi Francis overturned Pamela Martinez and Manijee Ashrafi at No. 2 doubles, 8-4.

In singles action, Reid closed out action first at No. 6 with a straight set sweep over Kuroda, 6-0, 6-0, and Chay demanded a, 6-1, 6-2, win over Roberts at No. 2 singles. Francis clinched the match with a, 6-2, 6-2, victory over Martinez at No. 4 singles. Bubien, Rietsch and Georgiana Marta all took the first sets in their respective matches, but did not finish as the match was called.

The Mustangs return to action again tomorrow in Tulsa against No. 50 Wichita St.
