DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU rowing team raced against Creighton University this morning at White Rock Lake in Dallas. The Mustang crew posted a win in the varsity eight over Creighton by 13 seconds on a 2,000 meter racecourse.
The Mustangs opened the morning by crossing the finish-line first to win the varsity eight by 13 seconds as SMU stopped the clock at 7:12.72 and CU came in second with a time of 7:25.72.
"I thought we raced well against Creighton, it's always nice to start the spring with a win in the varsity eight," said head coach Doug Wright. "This race helps give us a better idea of what we need to work on during the upcoming spring break training week."
In the Novice eight, the Mustangs timed in a 8:06.77 behind Creighton. The varsity four "B" hit the course between two Creighton boats as SMU timed in at 8:07.70 for second-place.
The varsity four "A" made a push at the end to notch the win with a time of 7:58.65. The Novice four crossed the buoys at 9:54.44 while the second varsity eight timed in at 7:49.80.
The Mustangs race next on March 24 in Lawrence, Kan., where they will go head-to-head with Kansas.
