SARASOTA, Fla. (SMU) - SMU rowing posted two first-place finishes in varsity eight and second varsity eight as a part of eventful first day at the Sarasota 2K.
 
Returning to Sarasota for its first action of the regular season, the Mustangs competed in five races on Friday.
 
They started with a third-place finish in second varsity four with a time of 7:47.00. The boat finished ahead of fourth place West Virginia by over 17 seconds. In third varsity eight, the Mustangs crossed the line in 7:02.13, good for third place. They finished ahead of fellow ACC program Miami as well as Jacksonville.
 
 
In the first varsity four, the Mustangs posted a 7:24.58 time, ahead of ACC program Boston College and Tulsa, Drexel and High Point.
 
In the second varsity eight, the Mustangs paced the field. They finished first in 6:47.03, 3.18 seconds ahead of second-place Dartmouth. They also topped Tulsa, Boston College, Drexel and High Point.  
 
The varsity eight was slated as the last SMU race of the day. The Mustangs again took first place, this time in 6:32.87, 3.08 seconds ahead of Dartmouth. They bested Boston College, Tulsa, High Point and Drexel as well in the race.
