DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU men's tennis team blanked UIC this evening, 7-0, at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas. The Mustangs notched the doubles point and won all six singles to take the match.
"It was great to have everyone healthy and playing their best tennis," said head coach Carl Neufeld. "It was a really exiting match. We won all of the three set matches against a really fired up UIC team."
In doubles action, Federico Murgier and Alex Skrypko posted a, 8-2, win over Eric Fey and Andy Lockhart at the No. 1 spot while Oivind Alver and Robin Fahgen paired for a, 8-6, win over Bastian Harbo and Adriano Liccardo at No. 2. At the No. 3 spot, the tandem of Adolfo Solares and Chris Hooshyar notched a, 8-1, win over Sebastian Lystad and Sam Sweeney.
No. 67 Skrypko took a straight set win over Liccardo, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 1 while Kuczer defended the No. 2 spot with a, 6-4, 6-2, win over Lystad. Murgier fell in the first set but remained strong in the end to win, 5-7, 6-3 (10-1), over Harbo. Alver played solid for a, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, win over Fey at No. 4. Fahgen commanded a 6-2, 6-1, win over Lockhart at No. 5 while Hooshyar powered through for a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, win over Sweeney at No. 6.
The Mustangs will return to the courts with a double-header on Sat., March 31 beginning with UALR at 1 p.m. and PVAMU at 6 p.m. at the Bent Tree Country Club.
