OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (SMU) - The SMU rowing team wrapped up competition Sunday at the Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Championship (SIRA). The regatta was held over two days with the first heats held yesterday and the finals Sunday at the Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. The Mustang crews placed three boats.
The varsity four boat clocked a time of 8:03.00 for a seventh-place finish in the B-Final. The Mustangs beat Stetson, Charleston, Tulane, Georgia and Texas in their heat.
In the varsity eight, the Mustangs notched ninth-place in the B-Final with a time of 7:06.44. Tulsa, Alabama, Murray St., Jacksonville and West Virginia were in their final.
In the B-Final of the novice eight competition, the Mustangs clocked in at 7:49.70 in eleventh-place. SMU faced Tennessee, Cincinnati, Tulsa and Murray St. in that final.
The Mustangs will travel to Oklahoma City, Okla., next Saturday where they will compete in the Midwest Rowing Championships on April 28th.
