Sugar Grove, Ill. (SMU) - Despite improving its team score by 11 shots from the opening round, the SMU men's golf team still slipped three spots at the 2007 NCAA Central Regional at Rich Harvest Farms. SMU's second round 306 has the Mustangs at 623 for two rounds, 17 shots out of the final qualifying spot for the NCAA Finals and in 19th place.
Individually, Scott Barton (80-75) leads the `Stangs at 11-over 155 and is tied for 66th. Scott Sikes, who opened with a 74 on Thursday, followed that up with an 83 Friday and is tied for 80th. All-American Colt Knost, who was medalist at a tournament played at this course in the fall, but carded his highest round of the year - an 11-over 83 - on Thursday, shaved eight strokes and shot 75. He is tied for 89th. Draegen Majors repeated his 80 and is tied for 102nd at 160. Frank Wrenn had the biggest turn-around of the day, shaving 12 strokes to shoot 76. He is tied for 122nd at 164.
The 27-team, six-individual NCAA Regional is being played over 54 holes, with 18 played each day through Saturday, May 19. The low 10 teams and low two individuals not on those teams will advance to the finals.
