DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU women's soccer team opened up its preseason training on Wednesday morning with the first two-a-day practices and is gearing up for its first exhibition game on Sunday, August 19 vs. Texas A&M-Commerce at Westcott Field. Kick-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. and admission is free.
Momentum runs strong for SMU going into the 2007 campaign. After posting a 17-5-1 record in 2006, a solid core of seven seniors leads a squad, which includes 14 returning veterans. Youth is prevalent on this squad, but experience runs deep for SMU, which also features six juniors, four sophomores, and seven freshmen. After an illuminating spring, first-year head coach Brent Erwin knows that his team is excited for the season to kick off. "The team immediately accepted our coaching staff and what we wanted from the group," says Erwin. "They work very well as a squad and look to do something special here at SMU."
After hosting an exhibition game vs. Oklahoma on August 26, SMU will prepare for its season opener on Friday, August 31, vs. UTSA at 5:30 p.m.
