SMU's Lauren Shepherd Honored By Conference USA

DALLAS (SMU) - Sophomore Lauren Shepherd scored the game-tying goal against Colorado State and the game-winner against UTEP, en route to sharing Conference USA Player of the Week honors.
The goals were the first two of the season for Shepherd, matching her total from her freshman season. The Player of the Week award is the first in her career; she shared the award with Rice's Shelley Wong.
Against Colorado College, Shepherd got the equalizer in the 60th minute when she pounced on a loose ball about 30 yards out and blasted a high, arcing shot that curled down over goalkeeper Caitlin Hulyo's outstretched hands and dipped under the crossbar, into the upper right corner of the goal.
Then, in Sunday's 1-0 victory over UTEP, Shepherd wreaked havoc on the Miner defense all afternoon, , and scored the game's lone goal in the 75th minute when she ran on to a long through ball from teammate Devon Herrman, split a pair of UTEP defenders and beat UTEP goalkeeper Sara Kaltwasser with a shot into the lower right corner to lead the Mustangs past the Miners.
Shepherd and the Mustangs are headed out on the road to play four consecutive road games before returning home to face Memphis at 7 p.m., Oct. 17, at Westcott Field.
