SMU Hosts Marshall, East Carolina
The Mustangs host Marshall and East Carolina this weekend at Westcott Field. SMU is riding a two-game unbeaten streak into this weekend, after defeating Rice and drawing Houston this past weekend. Next weekend, the women will make their final regular season road trip of the season, as they travel to Memphis and UAB, before finishing the regular season with three home games.
SMU vs. Marshall
SMU is 4-0 all time against Marshall. The Mustangs earned a 3-2 victory in Huntington last season on October 10, with Kim Peabody scoring a goal for the Mustangs.
SMU vs. East Carolina
SMU holds a 2-2-1 overall record against East Carolina, after losing twice to the Pirates last season. The Mustangs lost at East Carolina 2-1 during the regular season, and lost 1-0 on November 5 in the C-USA Tournament at Rice. SMU's last scoreless draw came on November 2, 2005 against East Carolina.
Packing the Bleachers
Entering this weekend, SMU is second (behind UTEP) in Conference USA with an average home attendance of 546 (4-2184) so far this season. Last season, the Mustangs drew 3383 fans for 9 home games, an average of 376 per game. It's May's Day Sophomore Logan May leads SMU with three assist this season, and also has two goals. May was named to the Conference USA all-freshman team in 2008 for her excellent season, which saw her tie for the SMU lead in goals.
Scovill Scores
Kenzie Scovill is tied for the team lead with three goals this season, scoring the game winners in SMU's wins against North Texas and UTSA, and against No. 16 California. Scovill, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas native has started every game for SMU so far, and has played 842 of 1010 possible minutes this season.
Transfer of Power
Leslie Briggs has quickly made an impact on SMU after transfering from North Carolina. The Carrollton native is tied for the team lead in goals with three, and was named to the 2009 Saint Mary's Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Punctual Peabody
Senior Kim Peabody's streak of minutes played came to an end at Saint Mary's after 21 games and 1831 minutes, despite picking up her first assist of the season during that contest. Peabody was named first-team all-Conference USA in 2008 for her excellent defensive play, and was a Preseason All-Conference selection by the league's coaches. Peabody was also selected to the 2009 Saint Mary's Invitational All-Tournament Team.
C-USA Championship
The C-USA Women's Soccer Championship will take place at SMU's Westcott Field from November 4-8, with the top six teams from the league gaining entry.
