PALO ALTO, Calif. (SMU) - SMU sophomore distance specialist Silje Fjortoft took on some of the elite distance runners in the nation Friday night in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif., and finished ahead of the pack, winning the event in 9:56.73.
The Mustangs' other representative at the meet, senior Rachael Forish, clocked a 16:42.92 in the 5,000-meter run, finishing second in section 3 of the event.
Fjortoft's and Forish's times in their respective events were both NCAA Regional qualifying times.
The rest of the Mustangs will compete Saturday in the UTA/Bobby Layne Invitational at Maverick Stadium in Arlington.
