SMU Starts C-USA Play, Hosts SMU Classic
SMU kicks off Conference USA play, and hosts the 2009 SMU Classic at Westcott Field. SMU split a pair of games while hosting the Prego Express Italian Invitational, beating Bradley, who was recieving votes entering the weekend, and losing to now No. 24 Cal State Northridge. With Brown (No. 25) also moving into the NSCAA Top 25 this week, all of SMU's losses are to teams who are currently ranked (also No. 1 Akron). SMU is receiving votes in the poll, but is not currently ranked. SMU will play their final non-conference match on Wednesday, Sept. 30, as they host Centenary
SMU vs. UAB
SMU is 3-2-1 against UAB, with 5 of the six meetings coming since SMU entered Conference USA in 2005. SMU is on a three game unbeaten (2-0-1) streak against UAB, dating back to the 2006 C-USA Tournament.

SMU Tournament
SMU has won 28 of the last 34 tournament games (28-5-1), dating back to 1994. SMU first held their tournament, originally titled the SMU Letterman's Classic in 1987, and has been held every year since, with the exception of 1992 and 2001, and was held twice in 2005 and 2006. The tournament was also held from Sept. 18-20 this season, with SMU splitting two games. Overall, SMU is 34-9-3 in the tournament, and has outscored opponents by a margin of 2.26 to 0.74 in 46 matches.
The Great Dane
Senior Dane Saintus has four assists in six games (0.67 per game), which ties him with Payton Hickey for the team lead, and ties him for 17th in the nation. Saintus has scored three goals this season, and posted the Mustangs' second multi-goal game of the year against Yale. He was named to the All-Tournament Team at the adidas-Brown Classic.
da Silva Lining
Even though Paulo da Silva has battled injury during his SMU career, he was awarded a medical redshirt and is playing his fifth season on the Hilltop. Against Seattle, da Silva recorded the second multi-goal game of his career, and his first since the 2005 NCAA Tournament. This season, he was named to the CollegeSoccerNews.com Preseason All-American team, and the All-Tournament Team at the adidas-Brown Classic. da Silva, was also named to the 2005 All-College Cup team, and has scored the only College Cup goal in SMU history.
