Road Trip Begins Conference Play
SMU plays Colorado College and UTEP to kick off their 2009 C-USA schedule, after earning a split this weekend against UTSA and No. 2 Portland. SMU faces Colorado College, a C-USA affiliate member for women's soccer, in Colorado Springs, and then plays UTEP in El Paso to complete the road trip out west. SMU only has two more road matches scheduled this season, which come Oct. 16 & 18 against Memphis and UAB, respectively. The Mustangs host Rice on Oct. 2 to kick off the home conference schedule.
SMU vs. Colorado College
Colorado College beat SMU in their meeting last season in Dallas (Sep. 26), with Lauren Shepherd scoring for the Mustangs in the 2-1 defeat. Overall, SMU is 7-8 against the Tigers.
SMU vs. UTEP
SMU defeated UTEP in their meeting last season in Dallas (Sep. 28), with Lauren Shepherd scoring the only goal in a 1-0 game. Overall, SMU is 13-2 against UTEP.
Punctual Peabody
Senior Kim Peabody's streak of minutes played came to an end at Saint Mary's after 21 games and 1831 minutes, despite picking up her first assist of the season during that contest. She still has shown a remarkable ability to stay on the field, having played 90 minutes every other game this season, and has played fewer than 90 minutes only three times in her last 31 games, dating back to 2007. Peabody was named first-team all-Conference USA in 2008 for her excellent defensive play, and was a Preseason All-Conference selection by the league's coaches. Peabody was also selected to the 2009 Saint Mary's Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Scovill Scores
Kenzie Scovill has three goals on seven shots this season, scoring the game winners in both of SMU's wins and against No. 16 California. Scovill, a freshman from Lewisville, Texas native has started every game for SMU so far, and has played 506 of 630 possible minutes this season.
Transfer of Power
Leslie Briggs has quickly made an impact on SMU after transfering from North Carolina. The Carrollton native is tied for the team lead in goals with three, and was named to the 2009 Saint Mary's Invitational All-Tournament Team.
C-USA Championship
The C-USA Women's Soccer Championship will take place at SMU's Westcott Field from November 4-8, with the top six teams from the league gaining entry.
