DALLAS (SMU) - Dane Saintus posted SMU's first hat trick since 2004, and the Mustangs earned a 4-1 win over Centenary Wednesday night at Westcott Field. Joe Cooper added his second goal of the year in addition to Saintus' three goals.
SMU (4-4-1) started the scoring in the 38th minute when Saintus scored his first goal of the night, with an assist from Diogo de Almeida, his first assist of the season. Richard Oliva registered his first assist since October 27, 2007, when he set up Dane Saintus' second goal just out of halftime in the 46th minute.
Joe Cooper added his second goal of the season, with assists from Ryan Rosenbaum and Payton Hickey in the 77th minute. Rosenbaum, who was making his collegiate debut tonight, collected his first career assist, and Hickey extended his team lead with his sixth assist of the season.
Dane Saintus completed the hat trick in the 86th minute with an assist by Arthur Ivo. Duke Hashimoto was the last Mustang to accomplish the feat, in the Mustangs 5-2 victory over Yale on September 24, 2004. The hat trick was Saintus' second multi-goal game of the season, also scoring twice against Yale on September 13.
Centenary (2-6-1) added a goal in the 90th minute from Ryan Christanson to spoil the shutout bid.
The Mustangs will finish this six game homestand on Sunday, as they host Memphis at Westcott Field at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports.
