GREENWOOD, Ind. (SMU) – SMU Men's Soccer sophomore
Stephan Soghomonian was named College Sports Communicators Second Team Academic All-American as announced by the association on Tuesday.
Soghomonian boasts a 3.909 GPA while studying Finance. He led the Mustangs this season with 13 goals and including two hat tricks. He scored the Mustangs' winning goal in their ACC tournament championship match to win SMU's first ACC Championship title.
The Santa Clarita, Calif., native was named United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-District and earned Second Team All-ACC honors after the regular season. He scored two hattricks this season against Cal (Oct. 10) and Boston College (Oct. 18), earning him two ACC Offensive Player of the Week honors (Oct. 7 and Oct. 21). He became the first Mustang to score a hattrick after almost two years in the Mustangs' 4-0 win against Cal on Oct. 3.
In Mustangs' run to their first ACC Championship, Soghomonian scored in all four matches of the tournament and tied the tournament record with four goals. He scored two matchwinners in the tournament and earned All-Tournament Team honors.
