WEBB NAMED C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Junior goalkeeper Courtney Webb was named Conference USA Co-Defensive Player of the Week after posting shutout victories over C-USA rivals East Carolina and Marshall. Webb also stopped two penalty kick opportunities en route to her perfect weekend. With the shutouts, Webb has set a new personal-high for most shutouts in a season with six. MARSHA, MARSHA, MARSHALL!
SMU shutout Marshall 2-0 Oct. 3. Junior Kaitlyn Eidson got SMU on the board with a goal in the 69th minute. Sophomore Shelby Hartweck found a loose ball and crossed it to Eidson who buried the eventual game-winner. The goal was Eidson's first of the season. Hartweck added a goal of her own in the 81st minute of play when she sent the ball just inside the far past after collecting it on an attempted clear on a corner kick. The goal was Hartweck's second tally of the year. Webb made four stops on the afternoon to earn the clean sheet.
SMU BLANKS EAST CAROLINA
SMU defeated East Carolina 1-0 Oct. 1. Freshman Amanda Burgardt netted her third goal of the season in the 24th minute off a cross from senior Kristin Medeiros to score the game's lone goal. The assist was Medeiros' third this season. Webb stopped a season-high 10 saves on the day to collect the shutout.
BOWLED OVER BY RICE
The Mustangs fell 2-1 to Rice in overtime Sept. 26. All three of the game's goals were scored on set pieces. Burgardt tallied the Mustang goal in the 68th minute when she headed in the ball on a free kick from senior Lauren Shepherd to tie the game at one. The assist was Shepherd's team-leading fourth helper of the year.
